Tabs that travel
Drag a tab out to give it its own window, or onto another window to move it. The connection and the
scrollback come along. Background tabs light up when they print something new, and your windows, tabs
and splits come back the next time you start MagTerm.
Split panes
Split any pane right or down, as many times as you like, and drag the dividers to resize. Alt+Arrow
moves between panes; a split tab moves between windows as a whole.
Snippets and multi-exec
Keep the commands you use often in folders and send one to the terminal with a double-click. Turn on
multi-exec and what you type, paste or send goes to every tab in the window at once. Variables like
{{host}} fill in each server's own values, and {{?Branch}} asks before
sending.
Port forwarding
Local, remote and SOCKS forwards, saved with a session, read from LocalForward and friends in
your SSH config, or added while you're connected. One Tunnels view lists them all, to stop, restart or
find the tab behind each one.
Server status bar
Load, CPU, memory, disk and uptime under each SSH tab, refreshed every few seconds over the connection
you already have, with no extra login. For Linux servers; off until you turn it on.
Container shells
List the Docker and Podman containers and Kubernetes pods on a server and open a shell in one, in a
new tab or a split beside the host. It runs over the SSH connection you already have, so there's no
second login, with sudo if the server needs it.
Highlights and notifications
Errors show up in red and warnings in yellow as they scroll by, and you can add your own patterns. A
desktop notification tells you when a tab you're not looking at drops or prints a line you care about.
Saved sessions
Organise hosts in a folder tree with drag and drop and a filter box. Give a session its own font, colour
scheme and tab colour (red for production, say). Passwords and passphrases go to the OS keychain, never to
a plain file.
Bring your sessions
Import the sessions you already have from other terminal apps, or move MagTerm's own between machines
with an export file. You see what was found first, and passwords are never part of it.
Your ~/.ssh/config
Hosts from your SSH config show up live, with Match, Include,
ProxyJump chains and ProxyCommand support.
Jump hosts
Reach servers behind a bastion: pick another saved session as the jump host, and it logs in with its own
key or saved password, or type user@bastion. Chains work too.
Known hosts
Every trusted host key in one list, with when it was first trusted and last seen. Keys already in your
~/.ssh/known_hosts are trusted too, and a changed key gets a clear warning.
SFTP file explorer
Browse the active session's files, drag files in from your desktop to upload, download folders
recursively, and watch transfer progress.
Every way to log in
SSH agent (OpenSSH, Pageant, 1Password), private keys, passwords and keyboard-interactive, with host key
verification and a warning when a key changes. Agent forwarding follows your SSH config, or turn it on
for a single session.
SSH keys made easy
Generate an ed25519 key pair in a couple of clicks, then install its public key on a server you're
connected to, the way ssh-copy-id does.
Not just SSH
Local shells (PowerShell, cmd, Git Bash and WSL on Windows; your login shell on Linux and macOS), telnet
for network gear, and serial consoles, all in the same tabs.
Serial console tools
DTR and RTS toggles, CTS/DSR/DCD lights, Break, a hex dump of what goes in and out, and per-session
line endings, local echo and send delays for slow devices.
Session logs
Write what a session prints to a plain-text file, with colours and escape codes stripped out. Turn it on
for a saved session, or start it from any tab's menu.
Timestamps and saved output
Show the time each line arrived in a gutter beside the terminal, and in session logs. Save the whole
scrollback, or just what you selected, to a text file, with the times if they're showing.
Comfortable terminal
Select to copy, right-click to paste, search the scrollback, pick any installed font, a light or dark
theme and one of ten colour schemes. Ctrl+click opens links, and dropped connections reconnect by
themselves.
Paste with care
MagTerm asks before a paste that holds several lines or goes to several tabs at once, and can send it
line by line for slow devices. Mark a production session to confirm every paste.
